RIAU, (TB) – Pembangunan infrastruktur di Tanah Air harus tetap memperhatikan kelestarian lingkungan dan menjamin keberlangsungan hidup satwa liar. Demikian disampaikan Presiden Joko Widodo setelah melihat perlintasan gajah di KM 12 ruas tol Pekanbaru-Dumai, pada Kamis, 5 Januari 2023.
“Saya terus mengingatkan mengenai pentingnya juga memperhatikan lingkungan, seperti yang kita bangun Jalan Tol Pekanbaru-Dumai misalnya, ada terowongan untuk lintasan gajah sebanyak enam tempat,” ucap Presiden dalam keterangannya.
Sehingga, lanjut Presiden, pembangunan jalan tol ini tidak mengganggu perlintasan salah satu satwa yang dilindungi yaitu gajah Sumatra. Tidak hanya di Riau, Presiden menuturkan bahwa upaya pelestarian tersebut juga akan dilakukan di tempat lain agar pembangunan infrastruktur tidak mengganggu kelestarian satwa liar.
“Saya kira beberapa tempat memang kita membangun terowongan-terowongan, lintasan untuk hewan-hewan yang dilindungi tersebut,” tutur Presiden.
Dalam kesempatan terpisah, Kepala Balai Besar Konservasi Sumber Daya Alam (KSDA) Riau Genman S. Hasibuan juga menambahkan bahwa terowongan gajah ini merupakan langkah adaptasi atas pembangunan ruas jalan tol Pekanbaru-Dumai yang telah membelah habitat gajah di dua kota dan dua kabupaten dengan total populasi gajah sebanyak 76 ekor.
“Sebagai adaptasi dari pembangunan jalan tol ini terhadap keberadaan gajah di lokasi ini, maka kami dari Balai Besar KSDA Riau bekerja sama bersama Hutama Karya untuk membuat terowongan gajah sehingga gajah itu pergerakannya tidak terganggu,” ungkapnya.
Setelah melihat langsung perlintasan gajah tersebut, Presiden dan rombongan kemudian melanjutkan perjalanan menuju Kabupaten Rokan Hilir.
Turut mendampingi Presiden dalam peninjauan ini, Menteri Sekretaris Negara Pratikno, Menteri PUPR Basuki Hadimuljono, Menteri BUMN Erick Thohir, Gubernur Riau Syamsuar, dan Ketua DPRD Riau Yulisman.
